This weekend the Caro Tigers attended the 2024 Independent Swim Conference Swim and Dive Championship. The two day competition was held at the SVSU Gerstacker Regional Aquatic Center. At prelims Friday night the Tigers main goal was to swim well for a good seed position going into finals Saturday, but delivered much more. The 200 Freestyle started the evening with all 3 Tigers placing top 8, swimming new personal records, and Matt Booms setting a new school record of 1:58.02. This was just the start of new records being set for the night. Wyatt Sutton followed by setting a new record in the 100 Butterfly with a time of :58.71. Then Matt Booms set his second record for the night in the 500 Freestyle with a time of 5:24.81. Finally Wyatt Sutton finished the night by setting a new 100 Backstroke school record with a time of :56.27. The night was a huge success with all the Tigers setting new personal records and moving onto finals. On Saturday at finals the relay teams competed and like the night before the Tiger relays also swam excellent setting new PR’s. Taking 2nd in the 200 Medley relay, 200 Freestyles relay, and the 400 freestyle relay. Wyatt Sutton lowered his 100 fly record to a 58.44 and Matt Booms lowered his 500 freestyle record to a 5:23.13. Overall the Tigers swam great and held their seated position, giving them a third place overall finish. “Finishing 3rd in the conference is no easy task with just 7 swimmers. My hat goes off to the rookies Cooper, Cameron, Charlie, Logan, for carrying the team. Also to our veteran swimmers Matt, Wyatt, and Cas for leading the way.” - Coach Dave

Saturday the Tigers attended the Stephanie Rice Memorial Invitational, hosted by the Ogemaw Falcons. Teams in attendance were Alma, Caro, Chesaning, Garber, Ogemaw, Oscoda, Standish. The Tigers started the meet with a 4 second drop in the 200 Medley Relay to place 2nd, and the rest of the team followed. All the Tigers set new personal records in all of their events. The effort quickly started to show with the Tigers taking the lead after 4 events. They held that lead for 3 events then fell back to 2nd. Out of all the great swims of the day Wyatt Sutton stood out the most. Wyatt had a 3 second drop in the 100 backstroke to set a new school record and qualified for the MHSAA state cut. The TIgers continued to place high in the final events earning the team a runner-up achievement.

Thursday the Tigers hosted the John Glenn Bobcats. The Bobcats always bring tough competition, so the Tigers knew they had to work hard. The Tigers had three 1st, six 2nd, and three 3rd place finishes. They also achieved 10 new PR’s. “I’m Proud of the Team for swimming hard with only one practice this week.” Captain Wyatt Sutton.

Tuesday night the Tigers swam against the Chesaning Indians. The Tigers were eager to get back into competition after a long break. Unfortunately we were down 2 swimmers leaving the team with only 6 available swimmers. However the 6 Tigers swam great having 8-1st, 3- 2nd, and 2-3rd place finishes. The most exciting race of the night goes to the freshman Cameron Ransford, when he out touched Chesanings’ lead swimmer in the 50 Freestyle by 0.25 to finish 1st. Overall the Caro Tigers averaged a 2 second drop in their events and every Tiger finished with a new personal best.

Tuesday night the Tigers traveled to Standish for a Tri-Dual meet. Teams in attendance were Standish, Alpena, Chesaning, and Caro. Although the meet was not originally scheduled for a Tri, we welcomed the extra competition. This was only their second meet of the season and the Tigers showed up with some great swims. “We all pushed ourselves hard during the meet. We worked hard for every point to get the wins” - Captain Matt Booms. The Tigers hard work was not only evident in their wins, but also their times. With every Tiger swimming a personal best.

Thursday night the Tigers hosted the Garber Dukes for their first home meet of the season.
The Tigers have 4 returning swimmers and 4 first year swimmers. The meet started with the Dukes out touching the Tigers on the 200 Medley Relay. Then the Tigers followed up by taking the next two events. The two teams were pretty evenly matched, and it made for a fun meet to watch. “With ½ the team new this year we’re starting off strong, and I look forward to see what we can accomplish this season” - Coach Dave
