CARO Tigers 0 - Garber 8 (0-7; 0-1)

Game Date
May 11, 2021

TIGERS: 0
GARBER HIGH SCHOOL: 8

Traveling to Garber, the Caro Tigers already knew their opponents' high caliber! The game plan was to contain them and limit their scoring chances.

Well, that didn't go as planned as the hosts scored 7 goals in first half, including a penalty kick which was saved by Senior and Captain goal keeper Cheyenne Bearden but couldn't control the ball which allowed the penalty taker to score on rebound.

The speech was not pleasant as some players didn't step up to give the required efforts to match up their opponents from Garber. Some basic elements of soccer were not applied by several players which left the team exposed to a number of chances from the opposing side.

At start of the second half, the line up was changed to the usual one. Senior and Captain Katie Scharrer came so close to score in two occasions in the first minutes of the second half. It was a matter of time for Garber to add the finishing goal (8-0) with 10 minutes played in the second part of the game.

Games like this one are a very good reminder of all the skills we should be working on to be more competitive. Of course it doesn't encompass only technical skills but also putting the effort while being in shape and learning to become more aggressive on the ball to win it. Creating a team/family in which players care for one another on the field is the primary goal for the coach in addition to developing the skills. The 5-4-1 season record is still honorable and the next games will be crucial for the girls and the coach to be prepared for the District tournament. This young team has great potential and the coach is confident that it will make the headlines again.

The MVP trophy was presented to Captain and Junior Olivia Walker who gave 150% effort despite her continuing injury to play in both sweeper and center midfield positions. She blocked so many shots and contained several attempts from the Garber forward players.

Next game is away next Monday May 15th at 5:30 pm facing the Laker.
