Caro 0 - Harbor Beach 1

Game Date
Sep 11, 2019
Score
TIGERS: 0
HARBOR BEACH COMMUNITY HIGH SCHOOL: 1

The weather predictions with a thunderstorm warning gave little hope to both Caro and harbor Beach to play a soccer game. However, after analyzing the radar maps and the movement of the clouds (with the help of the spirits), both teams had to wait it out until the lightenings are out of sight and the sky stopped to dump pouring rain on the field.

First half started with equal calibers from both sides and the game, for once, was dominated by the visitors from Caro in winning the midfield and creating various chances to score. With less than 5 minutes left to the first half, a ball from a corner kick found a Harbor Beach player who jumped above the crowd to head the ball in the net for a goal. No one from Caro jumped to challenge this forward player from the hosting team.

The half time speech was not as bad but the coach reminded his players that they cannot let a player jump to the ball without being challenged and disturb him. So much effort from the visitors during the first half was in vain and the score didn't reflect the Tigers performance. The coach advised and comforted the players that the team is still in the game and based on the first half, they are able to tie.

Second half was mostly dominated by the hosts since some midfield players got injured and had to be used in defense which reduced the intensity upfront to put pressure on the hosts. The Harbor Beach players kept pressing and played a decent second half but the Tigers responded well by making some great passes and breakaways without any tangible results on the scoreboard.

It was a well fought battle and the Caro team is getting closer and closer to their first tie or win. Caro ended with a respectable 11 shots with 3 on target and Junior and Captain goaltender Coby Fetting made a total of 10 saves. Fetting was close to 2 shutouts during the last two games.

Special mentions go to Freshman and midfielder Marik Phillips who stepped up his game to compete well with bigger players and made some amazing passes. Sophomore and Josiah Anderson was consistent with his tackles and marking to keep his team competitive playing midfield, stopper and sweeper. Freshman Tanner Smith made 3 impressive shots on target with the support of his teammates. Sophomore and midfielder Klayton Clish put up a good battle in winning some balls and also made some great passes. As usual, Captain and Senior Trevin Phillips was the spine of the team by starting in midfield and ended up as a sweeper as he got injured in the first half.

The MVP award was presented to Freshman and midfielder Brady Rigg who played an exemplary game by providing his team with so many chances to score with 3 attempts on goal by his teammate Tanner. Rigg was able to win the ball and create various breakaways to put his team on the offensive gear and momentum.

This young team from Caro looks promising with the return of Junior Aaron Pierce for the next game. Pierce had recovered from an injury at his ankle and should be in the uniform on Monday.

Next game is at home against the visiting Lakers on Monday September 16 at 5:30 pm at the Caro Soccer Club field (AKA AYSO).
