Caro 1 - Memphis 3

Game Date
Aug 26, 2019
Score
TIGERS: 1
MEMPHIS HIGH SCHOOL: 3

The Tigers were traveling to Memphis under a doubtful sky full of threatening dark clouds despite the 50% rain predictions on the social media platform. The Caro boys were ready to tackle this away game no matter what the weather outcome would be, except for any possible lightnings.

The word from the coach was to start playing defensive since the past two games the Tigers incurred 13 goals. Fair enough, the first 20 minutes were about defending the Caro zone and containing the hungry hosts from Memphis. However, it was only a matter of time that the visiting defenders started making the usual mistakes (lack of marking, let them shoot, and out of position) to allow the hosts to strike first. The realignment of players' positions by the coach didn't help at all since the Tigers were overwhelmed by the continuing attacks performed by the Memphis offensive players. Two more goals were added to end this agonizing first half in which the Caro players never had time to settle and control the game. If it weren't for the amazing and spectacular 4 saves made by Junior/Captain and goaltender Coby Fetting, the score would have been disastrous and worst. He basically kept his team in the game for the second half.

The half time speech by the coach was obviously not rosy as he repeatedly reminded his players that this soccer game is about passion, intensity, effort to win the ball in every battle on the soccer pitch. He continued to add that it's about time that the Caro Tigers showed the crowd what they're all about regardless of the young team we have.

The officials started the second half and some realignment of players positions were necessary and executed by the coach since he ran out of options during the whole first half. All of sudden, the Tigers came out of nowhere and started to dominate the game by defending really well and putting pressure up front in their defensive zone. A couple of breakaways were not enough to threaten their goalie. However, on a well known long throw by Senior and Captain Trevin Phillips, the ball traveled very far to find Senior and forward player Jon Mozden who headed the ball past and over the Memphis goaltender for the first goal of the season for his team. The celebration was spectacular as the hard work and tenacity were rewarded. Obviously, now the visitors from Caro realized what they can do and kept pressing the hosts at their zone. Another long throw by Phillips came close to surprise the goalie who dropped the ball but with no Caro players around he was able to retrieve it for safety. The Memphis team, still in shock to see the Tigers as a threat, tried to take over the game but without success. The Caro goaltender Fetting kept making those amazing and key saves to keep this second half scoreless which he succeeded with the support of his defense consisting of Senior and Captain Dylan Bolzman, Freshman Ryan Will, Junior Damien Fellows and Freshman Ethan Fellows. The defense was reinforced by the help of Trevin Phillips and Jon Mozden in many situations. The visitors from Caro were able to win the second half (1-0) by delivering the best performance ever in this season. The Caro goalie Coby Fetting made a total of 3 saves in the second half for a total of 7 key saves in the game.

The MVP trophy was presented to Senior and forward Jon Mozden who scored the only and first goal of the season for his team. He also contributed in the defensive, midfield and offensive zones with such intensity and conviction.

Next game will be at home this coming Wednesday, August 28, hosting the team from Oscoda at 5:30 pm at the Soccer Club Field (aka AYSO).
