This away game for the Caro Tigers against the hosting team from Laker can be easily summarized in two simple statements:
1- Amazing defensive plays and performances by both teams
2- So many missed scoring chances on both sides with poor and lack of finishing touches
The visitors from Caro had a key defender out of the line-up due to sickness which left the coaches with limited options to realign the team to contain the hungry hosts. Midway into the second half, a Caro midfielder got injured and left his teammates with some last minute re-organization but succeeded in containing the Laker offensive squad.
Great performances worth mentioning exhibited by defenders and Seniors Chris Walker (Captain) and Ty Inches, and Sophomores Aaron Pierce and Coby Fetting (goalie) for his second consecutive shutout! The special mention goes to Junior Jonathan Mozden who deserved and was presented with the MVP award due to his persistence to hassle the ball carriers and clearing dangerous ball crossings from the critical defensive box with his head in various occasions. Jon kept a positive and fighting attitude from beginning to the end.
The coaches reminded the Caro players that this game should have been a win if not for the missed opportunities to capitalize on clear chances to score at least four (4) goals and let the opposing team come back with confidence who set the tone at the start of the game. The Caro team dominated and kept pressing the opponents during the first 20 minutes of the second half. The coaches also stressed out the importance of the psychological state of the players when starting the game and maintain that spirit for 80 minutes.
Both teams would probably go back to the blackboard to review the basics and learn from today's game.
Next game is at home in Caro against Bad Axe on Monday September 24th at 7 pm.
