On a beautiful warm Fall afternoon, the Caro Tigers were traveling at close proximity to the USA real estate soccer field to play their first Conference game which counts for the rankings. After a nice presentation of players and coaches, both teams knew what this game was all about. Fair enough, the first half started with careful analysis and close marking from each side with some breakaways dominated by the hosting team. However, the visitors from Caro didn't allow their opponents to take advantage of their domination and contained them from capitalizing on those various chances. After the first 25 minutes of play, a player from USA was forgotten on the left defense and ended up unmarked which allowed him to get closer to the Caro goalie and crossed it for an intercepted header for a goal by his forward teammate. The coaches from Caro were reminding their players how a single mistake like this one can cost them a goal and therefore trail with one goal on the scoreboard. The Tigers then realized what a gift they just gave the hosts after working so hard to contain their constant pressure and attacks. The visitors managed to limit the damage to one goal during the first half which was not that bad for the Tigers since they showed some ball control, passing and teamwork. The speech at break from both coaches were appraising their players for working hard and keeping the game so close and one unlucky goal would not change the game plan originally established. The inspiration from both coaches obviously woke up something magic in the Caro players' souls as they started the second half very strong. However, not even 10 minutes in the second half, the USA best talented player was unmarked by the stopper from Caro and managed to dribble through 3 defenders to score the second goal for his team. Now, the Tigers' coaches had no choice but to realign their players and cheer up this collapsing team after a second marking mistake. Then, something magic happened. The Caro started to contain themselves and began playing more passing and ball possession in the midfield with much better control and marking of the dangerous forward players. Fair enough, the visitors were rewarded as from a corner kick Captain and Senior Chris Walker sent the ball in the goalie's box which was deflected by a defender to find Captain and Junior Trevin Phillips who smartly headed the ball towards the net passed the USA goaltender to reduce the score to 1-2. This goal obviously gave extra wings to the Caro team as they kept dominating the rest of the game in all aspects. Again, the visitors were rewarded with a lost ball in the host team's box when, after various attempts to score by the Caro players, Trevin Phillips again blasted the ball to end these scoring attempts to tie the game 2-2. It was dramatic for the hosts to lose not only the two-goal lead but the control of the game. With only a few minutes left, forward and Junior Jonathan Mozden came very close to score the winning goal by heading the ball towards the goalie who easily caught it for a save. Despite that miss, Junior Jonathan Mozden received the game MVP award because he worked so hard in marking players and has constantly put pressure on the hosting team defense to allow his teammate Trevin to score two goals. The Caro Tigers left the USA field very proud of what they just accomplished as a TEAM and FAMILY. Even the media present at the game was impressed by the show the Caro team put up. The refs and other coaches respectfully congratulated the visitors for their determination to come back and tie this amazing and challenging game. Both coaches were pleased with their players, their performance and tremendous improvement to play as a team. Next home game is at Caro against Harbor Beach next Monday, September 17 at 7:00 pm.
